Department of Neurology

Welcome to the Department of Neurology, where our principles are excellence, civility and respect for one another. The department is known for offering a broad range of patient care services, providing quality undergraduate and graduate medical education, and conducting basic, clinical and translational research – all in a collegial environment.

We offer unique opportunities for training and research in these and other areas: neuroscience ICU care, tele-stroke with rural hospitals, neuroimaging studies of brain aging and dementia, and clinical trials of new therapies in stroke, epilepsy and neuro-oncology.

Students, residents and fellows experience a variety of training sites as they encounter acute and highly specialized neurological problems in a diverse population. They benefit from state-of-the-art hospital facilities, and participate in the highest level of care offered to people with epilepsy and other seizure disorders – as indicated by our status as the state’s only National Association of Epilepsy Centers (NAEC) Level 4 epilepsy center.

We are proud of a faculty that includes board-certified experts in stroke/vascular neurology, sleep disorders, Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, movement disorders, geriatric neurology and much more. Over the past several years, we doubled the size of our faculty; we added new certified training programs in neuro-critical care, neuromuscular medicine, and vascular neurology.

Our electro-diagnostic facilities are extensive. Our stroke center is certified by the Joint Commission, the accrediting body for more than 21,000 health care organizations. We have superb neuroradiology support. Our work is supported by the National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation, Health Resources and Services Administration, nonprofit foundations, industry and private philanthropy.

We hope you enjoy exploring our website, and we welcome your questions and input via telephone, email or through personal visits.
